Casting on...

and starting a new project is so much fun, i just love it!

I have a huge pile of WIPs and a huge queue of projects i want to do but as soon as i saw the feather and fan comfort shawl i knew i wanted to make one! So i cast two on today :o)

Well, in theory it's only one cos i cast on with 8mm needles then got to row 43 and was really unsure about the density of the fabric, it's very loose and drapey and as i wanted a camping shawl i wanted it thicker so it'll be warmer. With this in mind i dug out the 7mm needles and cast on again, hadn't even done one pattern repeat and i knew it was so much better so i ploughed on and am now up to row 46 with the second attempt :o)

I am using a vintage yarn i found in the charity shop. It's St.John's chunky tweed and is very prettily heathered. I have 8 balls of "navy" and 4 balls of "hyacinth", two shades of blue, one pale and one dark. I was going to work out a striping sequence so i could use as much as possible but i decided against it and will just change colours when i feel like it. It seems to be working so far and although i have ends to sew in it shouldn't be too hard cos i've been knitting the two colours together for a few stitches ;o)

It was my consolation prize for not being able to go to the knittingy picnic, the bloody weather is so annoying and wet!! So i was all alone at home cos Bloke had gone to help with the van resto and to cheer myself up i had a play on Ravelry - and bloody good fun it was too :oD

I'll take some piccies tomorrow when the light is better, but for now it's off to bed!! I will however share with you this photo of my handsome boy <3
