I LOVE merino! They feel SO soft, my feet feel like they are being cuddled :oD
I'm a bit annoyed that i took such a long break from knitting on them really, after making such good progress in the first few days of the month i didn't pick them up again until Saturday and it's taken me since then to finish the feet. I think the slow progress has been down to the purling of the sole stiches and the fact that i am using such small needles, i sometimes wish i didn't knit so loosely!!
So, that's my February socks finished, casting on for March we have Springtime in Paris and i am going to use my February Club yarn :o)

Lombard update

Well, i didn't manage to squeeze in any extra knitting time, in fact i lost some as we went out last night, sooooooo i am down to the start of the foot on both sockses now. I don't think i will get them finished in time to wear tomorrow, but i think i will take them with me in case i get a chance to sit down for a coffee and a bit of cake ;o)
Mum's coming up today so that they don't have to come over at 6am tomorrow but we've had SNOW! so it's more than likely we'll be getting a train tomorrow morning. I do hope this show is better thanthe last one and that there is more knitting and yarncrafts in general. I do know that the knitted garden will be there which i am VERY excited about, it looks absolutely amazing, did you see that bluetit? I can't wait!

In case anyone is reading this and vaguely interested, i have a book up for swap. For some reason i have two copies of Harmony Guide no.6 which is the crochet stitches one. It's brand new, never even been opened, still in it's Amazon wrapper but unfortunately i stuck it down the side of the sofa and forgot about it so now it's too late to send it back and exchange it! If you want it then i'll swap it for any of the other Harmony Guides (1-4, not 5, i have that ;o) ) or any Barbara Walker (yeah right!) or any other decent stitch guide book, or maybe even something else, make me an offer ;oD

Lombard Street - second cuff

Lombard Street - second cuff

There are five full repeats and the heel is started after the 5th row (of 8) so thats.... 45 rows plus 15 for the picot edge... 60 rows!
Might not be a lot to some people but to a slow-poke like me it's an enormous achievement :o)
Tonight i hope to finish the heel AND gusset decreases so i can start the feets both at once on ML tomorrow! Bloke is out so it should (theoretically) be possible and i won't get distracted by Waking the Dead either ;o)

Lombard Street - down to the foot!

So here's a progress report so far :oDOn Saturday night i did the heel flap.

I used the "eye of partridge" heel directions from SKS (where else!) and i've carried the back cable down into the heel. I'm not entirely sure i like it though, it gets a bit lost in the slip stitch pattern of the heel, i think i should have left those six cable stitches as knit stitches to stop it getting drawn in. I do really like the garter band i think it gives it a nice tidy edge and picking up the gusset stitches was quite easy too :o)

For the sole i am doing a reverse stocking stitch, or as Charlene Schurch calls it a "princess foot", it's a pain to work, i hate doing purls in the round, i always get in a tangle on the first stitch and i also get a ladder there too. Hopefully once it's washed and blocked(worn *lol*) it'll even the stitches out a bit more :o)
Tonight i will cast on the second sock and hopefully see the same progress which means i'll be doing the feets on Thursday, if i work quicker i might even have them finished and ready to wear to the craft show on Friday! That would be cool :oD

Do excuse the crap photos, the camera on my "new" phone isn't very good :o(

So far i have followed the pattern but tonight when i do the heel i will make some changes ;o)
I'm using the lovely merino that Toni sent me in the bagswap on Townies, it is really soft and springy to knit with, a little splitty but i can cope with that. The one thing i am not sure about is whether i should stretch it as i knit it or leave it at the same tension it is spun at, if that makes sense? So far i have been "not" pulling it tight and i have a nice dense fabric, i think if i pull it ithgt it will make it thiner and harder, the fabric i have now is thick and soft - yummy! I can't wait to finish them!
I'm doing the sock down to the end of the gusset decreases on magic loop and then i'll start the other one then finish them both two on one so that i don't have to count rows so dilligently when it do the feets :o)
